Old car Sunday in the park in Mission BC is always one of my favorite car shows. Having lived in the Fraser Valley (Abbotsford) for many years, it is a highlight that I always look forward to going to on Father’s Day. With a wide variety of cars, the show is held at Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission BC and there is always something cool to look at. This year was no exception with a large turn out.

I’d like to send a huge shout out to the Mission Fire Fighters Charitable Society for all the fabulous work they did in putting this event together.

After the show, my daughter and I went to Mission Springs Brewing. Now I will admit that I’ve been coming to this Brewery for a long time. Along with the brewery, Mission Springs has a great restaurant with a menu offering much variety and, of course, excellent beer.  The gas and oil memorabilia add to the rustic decor, making this a perfect finish to a day of automotive browsing. And if that is not enough, they have amazing views overlooking the Fraser River and their beach volleyball courts. This is a fun location for all ages.

For my flight I had the Blue Collar Pale Ale 5.25 % ABV – 30 IBU, Big Chief Cream Ale 4.5 % ABV – 0 IBU, Mighty Fraser IPA 7.6% ABV – 70 IBU and Bombshell blonde Ale 4.5 % ABV – 17 IBU. Our server “Steph” was fantastic and so was the Beer.

We ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza. it looked so good that I had to eat a slice before I could take a picture. (Marinara sauce, Italian sausage, pulled pork, bacon, salami, pepperoni, mozzarella.) It was perfection!

Mountain Paradise Show & Shine

Despite the threat of rain, downtown Revelstoke streets were full of classic cars and trucks. Everyone was happy to once again showing their spectacular autos. This is a wonderful setting and is truly a mountain paradise. Timed nicely with the Farmers Market gave this show it’s own intimate personality. Approximately 200 vehicles braved the weather and helped make this event a success.

Mt. Begbie Brewing Company

This is by far one of my favourite breweries! I personally make a point of stopping by as often as I can when passing through Revelstoke. The Brewery located at 2155 Oak Drive It is a little bit hidden gem just 6 minutes East of downtown on Hwy #1 (Look for the Coast Hillcrest Hotel signs) We took advantage of their tasting room to fill some growlers, taste some new offings and ordered Pepperoni & Mushroom pizza severed as a Calzone (Sliced pepperoni, mozza cheese, red onions & mushrooms) Did I say I love their pizza? Our server Anika was fantastic and pleasant as was all the staff! There is a store front where you can buy swag and beer even if the tasting room isn’t open (check their website for hours) Click here

Absolutely the best place to stop in Revelstoke!

Excellent selection of beers!

For my flight we tried the Powerhouse Pale Ale 4.7% alc./vol. IBU 18 This English style pale ale has a light taste with smooth yet distinctive character. Brave Liver Scotch Ale 6.5% alc./vol. is smooth and full-bodied. It’s easy drinking strong beer with a hint of caramel. Our other two selections came from their Experimental Beers Hoppy Thoughts -Citra IPA 8% alc./vol IBU 50 Hoppy Endings – Cold IPA 8% alcohol IBU 50 both were extremely tasty I enjoyed them both

Kelowna Car & Bike Show on May 29th was a well attended event at Rutland Lion’s Park. There was a wide assortment vehicles from Super Cars to Super Beetles! Some of the highlights were the his & hers Lamborghinis, a Ferrari and plenty of American Muscle. This was the 3rd Stop on my 2022 Tour.

The Rustic Reel Brewing Company

With five breweries within approximately a one-block radius in Kelowna’s North End, there were plenty of choices for our after the show beverage. The Rustic Reel Brewing Company was an excellent pick. With their large open air patio and lots of inside seating it made this brewery a vibrant and exciting location.

The selections for my flight of beer were:

Amber Ale (Alcohol 5.0% IBU 20) a traditional English style ale with a smooth maltiness and a hint of caramel, It was an easy choice.

Hazy IPA (Alcohol 6.0% IBU 30) This IPA has a silky smooth body and a very low bitterness.

Raspberry Hibiscus Sour (5% Alcohol 35 IBU) the added raspberries and hibiscus makes this a very refreshing beer and it’s slightly tart sour taste made it a great introduction to sour beers.

Nitro Coffee Stout (alcohol 5.6% 24 IBU) brewed with freshly roasted coffee makes this beer smooth and easy to drink and it’s creamy espresso taste made it perfect for an after dinner refreshment.

For dinner I ordered the Rustic Chicken Club – Roasted chicken breast on a toasted herb focacci, garlic aioli, romaine, charred tomato, pickled onion, bacon jam & Emmental cheese served with fingerling potatoes. It was a fantastic dish with plenty of flavours. I would gladly travel many miles to taste this again! The service was excellent & the staff was cheerful.

It was like a grand old garden party in Vancouver this May long weekend at the 2022 All British Field Meet. VanDusen Gardens opened their Gates after the two-year hiatus. Everyone was excited to see the best in British motoring. Many people donned their Sunday best and made what has been hailed as “The Greatest Show on Four Wheels” a success. Approximately 500 vehicles attended this everything British under the sun event.

Red Truck Brewing is a local hot spot for cyclists and people going for walks alike. It’s large cafeteria like atmosphere with plenty of seating in and outside. They have a large variety of beers on tap. For dinner I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries from their fantastic Truck Stop menu. The food was excellent and the staff added to the lively and fun atmosphere.

The flight of beer I ordered was the Endless Summer Golden Ale alcohol 4.8 IBU 18, Smooth and honey like texture, Baja Mexican Lager alcohol 5% IBU 12 light refreshing taste, Checkpoint Red Pilsner alcohol 5% IBU 25 bold & easy drinking, Hard day NW IPA alcohol 6.3 IBU 69 strong sharp yet refreshing. I enjoyed them all.

Without question Red Truck Beer Company is going to be one of my favorite stops when I am in Vancouver. Cheers!

Nifty Fifties’ Spring Thaw and Bitter Sisters Brewery

Calgary Alberta

Nifty 50s Ford Club had their annual spring thaw car show at Heritage Park in Calgary Alberta. It was a good show and was well-attended. There was a wide variety of cars and it was a wonderful day. Many people took advantage of this wonderful day to bring their hot rods and muscle cars of all makes and models to the parking lot of Gasoline Alley.

After the show we went to Bitter Sister Brew Company just down the street on Heritage Drive.

I had a flight of beer. All four beers I tasted were refreshing and easy to drink. I particularly liked the Little Brother Butch Session Ale (5.0% ABV, 28 IBU) the others I tried were Second Chance IPA (6.5% ABV, 45 IBU), Dank Frank New England Pale Ale (6% ABV, 40 IBU) and Uncle Philsner Pilsner (5.5% ABV, 14 IBU) All of them were excellent.

For dinner I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich
– buttermilk marinated, cayenne and chipotle oil, house pickles, mayo, iceberg lettuce, roast onion bun

When it arrived I was faced with the question “to cut or not to cut?” I decided to cut (wrong choice) The chicken burger lived up to its name and it was definitely hot it was also excellent.

Chelsea our server was pleasant, prompt and very efficient.

I will definitely be coming back to fill my growlers and my tummy.
